BIG’s Board holds its first meeting
The Brussels Institute for Geopolitics is pleased to announce that its Board held its first meeting today. Composed of seven individuals who will serve a two-year term, the Board brings a wealth of experience and expertise to guide and oversee the institute's strategic development. Its members are:
Alexandre Adam, Member of the French Conseil d’État and former Europe advisor to French President Emmanuel Macron
Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Managing Director of DigitalEurope and former advisor to the Danish government and NATO
Nathalie Errard, Senior Vice-President, responsible for European and NATO affairs, at Airbus
Rita Faden, President of the Board of Directors of the Luso-American Foundation (FLAD) and former Chief of Staff to the Portuguese Prime Minister
Theodora Gentzis, Secretary-General and President of the Board of Directors of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Jaroslav Kurfürst, Director-General for Europe at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Heiko Thoms, State Secretary for Financial Market Policy, European Policy and International Financial Policy at the German Federal Ministry of Finance.
Together they bring a broad diversity of experiences and perspectives, as well as leadership and deep understanding of the geostrategic challenges Europe faces.
The members of the Board have elected State Secretary Heiko Thoms as Chair and Ms Rita Faden as Vice-Chair.
Heiko Thoms, elected Chair of the Board, said: “It is a real honour and a pleasure to steer the institute’s work at this key stage of its development. The current geopolitical climate poses massive challenges for Europe. Growing the Union’s capacity for strategic analysis, policy development and dialogue is going to be mission critical.”
Rita Faden, elected Vice-Chair of the Board, said: “It’s great to participate in a project that wants to think strategically and propose ways of moving forward in Europe and in the EU’s relations with the world.”
Luuk van Middelaar, Director of the Brussels Institute for Geopolitics, added: “We are delighted and proud to have been able to assemble a Board of such calibre and breadth. It proves that European governments and businesses alike, as well as civil society, understand the need for change.”
The members of the Board will act in their personal capacity, demonstrating their commitment to advancing BIG's objectives. They will provide accountability and ensure the institute positions itself at the forefront of actionable geopolitical thinking.
