New collaboration with Sciences Po
The Brussels Institute for Geopolitics is pleased to announce a new collaboration with Sciences Po.
L'Institut d'études politiques de Paris – to use its full moniker – is one of France’s most prestigious research universities. Established in 1872, the institution has a reputation for cultivating excellence among the next generations of policymakers, economists and political scientists – a heritage epitomised by its motto, At the roots of the future. Like BIG, Sciences Po takes a keen interest in the governance of tomorrow.
Within the partnership framework, we will host Thomas Laffitte in our Brussels offices for a six-month residency beginning on 1 October 2025. Thomas, a PhD researcher at Sciences Po, focuses on EU integration and Europe’s political economy.
This collaboration reflects our core mission: building bridges between European capitals and the institutions in Brussels, fostering dialogue at the heart of the EU.
Earlier this year, we had the pleasure to publish an article by Luis Vassy, President of Sciences Po, entitled ‘The University: A European Power Project’, in which he asserted that European strategic autonomy should be ‘a major intellectual issue for schools and universities across Europe’. ‘The grammar of power should not be confined to a limited body of diplomats and military personnel, who themselves have been marginalized within the affairs of the state and Europe as other functions, economic and social, have developed.’ At BIG we are pleased to take part in this wider societal mission related to Europe’s strategic awakening.
Since its foundation, the Brussels Institute for Geopolitics has nurtured academic partnerships with and received young visiting researchers from Charles University (Prague), the University of Lisbon and the European University Institute (Fiesole).
